Effect of Propagation Method and Growth Regulators on the Rooting of Chrysanthemum Cuttings

Abstract
The present experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of several plant growth regulators on the rooting of chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium) cuttings and the feasibility of hydroponic rooting method. The results are summarized as follows.
1. The number of differentiated roots was increased when the IBA concentration in water increased up to 2.5ppm. At 2.5ppm, however, moderate injury was observed in the cuttings. For the practical use of hydroponic routing method, therefore, 0.5 to 1.0 ppm IBA in water is recommended.
2. SADH significantly inhibited the rooting of cuttings when rooted continuously in SADH solution. However, when cuttings received 15 minute, basal dip treatment at higher concentration of SADH solution prior to placing them in rooting medium (vermiculite), significant promotion of rooting was obtained.
3. SADH, when used in combination with IBA, generally countered the promotive effect of rooting by IBA.
4. Low concentration of SADH in water inhibited the rooting of cuttings but increased the number of axillary shoots.
